4.12 Lightning Protection Fuse Replacement
Every 24 calendar months, replace all lightning protection 3.2 Amp slow-blow fuses. There are five total
fuses in the system that is part of this requirement (Reference Section 4.1).
Figure 4-17 shows the general location of the fuse locations and provides reference to the applicable
detail with in this section that applies.
Table 4-6 lists the appropriate P/N of the 3.2 Amp slow blow fuse that is required for the fuse
replacement.

4.12.1 Battery and Alternator Voltage Suppressor Fuse Replacement
To gain access for the fuse replacement, remove the instrument panel cover as described in the DA 40
Aircraft Maintenance Manual.
1. Refer to Figure 4-17, Figure 4-18 and Figure 4-19 to locate the two fuses mounted behind the
instrument panel, near the circuit breaker panel. Each fuse is wired inline with a voltage
suppressor.
2. Twist each fuse holder cap counter-clockwise, remove each fuse and replace with a new fuse.
Reference Table 4-6 for the proper P/N fuse.
3. Reinstall the instrument panel cover as described in the DA 40 Aircraft Maintenance Manual.
